Assyrian King Sennacherib (r. 705-681 BC) is the pagan king who made the mistake of challenging YAHWEH, the LORD God of Israel, in the days of Judah’s King Hezekiah, as well as the prophet Isaiah. The history is narrated in 2 Kings 18-19; 2 Chronicles 32, and Isaiah 36-37. Against all odds, the Lord delivered Judah and in particular Jerusalem, from Sennacherib, for His name’s sake, and for His servant David’s sake.
